Bringing the handpan into schools doesn't simply mean introducing a musical instrument into the classroom. It means opening up a new space, one of listening, connection, presence, and freedom of expression .
The project to teach handpan in schools was born from this very vision: to use sound as a universal language, capable of engaging, uniting, and igniting something profound in children.
A magnificent, intense and authentic experience
What we experienced during this course, held at the Torreglia middle school from November 15th to 19th, 2025, was much more than a music workshop.
It was an authentic moment , where time slowed down and every sound found its space.
In the circle, the children learned to listen before playing , to perceive the rhythm not only with their hands, but with their bodies and their attention. The handpan became a bridge: between silence and sound, between themselves and others, between emotion and awareness.
An experience that will remain in our hearts forever.
The educational value of sound
In the school context, the handpan has proven to be an extraordinary instrument for:

strengthen trust, curiosity and respect for other people's time
Each boy was able to approach the sound at his own pace, discovering that there is no right or wrong way to play , but only an authentic way of being there.
The kids: the heart of the project
The biggest thanks goes to them:
to the kids , who got involved with courage and curiosity , letting themselves be guided by sound. Over the course of the week, the project involved around 120 middle school students from the first, second, and third grades .
We saw them open up, listen to each other, support each other.
We saw them play freely , without fear, transforming a new experience into pure emotion .
In those moments, something clicked.
✨ The light came on.
To allow everyone to experiment directly and concretely, 20 handpans were made available, offering the children the opportunity to really get close to the instrument , touch it, listen to it and play it.
Not a demonstration, but a lived experience.
Freedom of expression as an educational tool
One of the central aspects of the project was the concept of freedom of expression .
The boys were able to play the handpan without rigid patterns , without judgement, without the pressure of performance.
Every sound was welcomed as part of the process, every gesture as an opportunity for expression. In this protected space, the handpan became an instrument for:
