The Kestrel Flute in the high key of D minor (440 Hz) is handcrafted from Aromatic Cedar, a softwood that gives the instrument a warm, resonant tone and full of harmonics.
The Kestrel's high pitch makes it ideal for drum circles and group performances, as its high register stands out perfectly among lower-sounding instruments. Furthermore, the key of D is universally recognized thanks to the Penny Whistle, making this flute extremely versatile and suitable for a variety of musical styles.
The Kestrel 'D' is the highest octave produced in the key of D minor, making it perfect for accompanying bass flutes like the Condor Bass 'D'. At a compact 38 cm (15 inches), it's a practical and easily portable instrument, ideal for those who enjoy traveling or playing outdoors. It can also be played in the relative major scale of F (F major).
This six-hole flute includes a leather ligature that covers the third hole from the top (the sixth hole), making it easier to learn the five-hole configuration. The ligature can be easily removed for a full five-hole configuration.
