The Double Eagle is a double flute: one side plays the melody, while the other plays the drone sound on the fundamental note. The result is an enveloping and harmonious effect, as if two musicians were playing together. It requires more breathing space than a single flute, but remains accessible thanks to its medium size, making it one of the most portable and popular double flutes.
The flute has six holes, but includes a leather ligature that covers the third hole from the top (the sixth hole). This option makes learning easier for those who prefer the five-hole configuration, with the ligature easily removed for a full-size version.
