Esistono strumenti che scegli. E poi esistono strumenti che ti scelgono.
Questo Handpan F Pygmy a 11 note in 440 Hz è uno di quelli che mi ha scelto. Lo suono ogni giorno. L'ho portato in studio, in concerto, in contesti di sound healing. E ogni volta mi dà qualcosa di nuovo.
Voglio raccontarti perché, dal mio punto di vista di musicista e insegnante, questo handpan è qualcosa di straordinario — e perché lo consiglio senza esitazione.
La scala Pygmy: un viaggio verso l'interno
La scala Pygmy è una delle più amate dagli appassionati di handpan. Parte dal Fa come nota fondamentale e si sviluppa in un sistema di intervalli che crea subito un'atmosfera profonda, raccolta, quasi ipnotica.
Non è una scala allegra nel senso convenzionale. È una scala viva — capace di portarti dentro, di creare spazio interiore. Perfetta per la meditazione, per il sound healing, ma anche per composizioni più articolate, per chi vuole esprimersi con sfumature e profondità.
Con 11 note a disposizione hai un range espressivo molto ampio. Puoi costruire frasi melodiche complete, giocare con i bassi e i toni alti, creare dinamiche che in handpan a meno note non saresti in grado di ottenere.
Il suono — e come l'ho registrato
Le parole non bastano quando si parla di timbro. Per questo ho registrato una composizione su questo strumento, e te la lascio qui:

Quello che senti è lo strumento suonato senza effetti aggiuntivi significativi. Quello che ti arriva — quell'equilibrio tra le note, quella chiarezza di overtone, quella rotondità del tono — è lo strumento stesso.
Il suono è equilibrato, magico e sorprendentemente vivo. Non c'è nota dominante che strida rispetto alle altre. Non c'è asimmetria timbrica. C'è una coerenza che si sente immediatamente, anche a orecchie inesperte.
"Ma è di una grande azienda..." — sfatiamo un mito
So cosa stai pensando. Quando senti che un handpan proviene da un marchio strutturato, magari immagini un prodotto industriale, standardizzato, privo di quella cura artigianale che rende ogni handpan unico.
Non è così. Ogni handpan — anche questo — è costruito a mano da artigiani altamente specializzati. La lavorazione del metallo, la tuning di ogni singola nota, la cura della cupola e del fondo: tutto passa attraverso mani esperte, anni di esperienza, orecchie allenate.
La differenza rispetto ai piccoli artigiani indipendenti non è nella qualità della manifattura — è nella costanza. Un brand strutturato garantisce standard ripetibili, materiali selezionati, controlli di qualità su ogni pezzo. E questo, per chi come me suona e consiglia strumenti ogni giorno, è un valore enorme.
L'assistenza — un dettaglio che cambia tutto
Un aspetto che mi ha colpito molto di recente: la possibilità di accordatura assistita da parte del produttore. L'handpan, come tutti gli strumenti metallici percussivi, può perdere leggermente l'accordatura nel tempo — per variazioni di temperatura, trasporto, utilizzo intenso.
Sapere che c'è un'assistenza attiva e attenta, che puoi contare su qualcuno per mantenere lo strumento al massimo delle sue possibilità: questo per me vale quanto la qualità dello strumento stesso. Anzi, è parte della qualità.
A chi consiglio questo handpan
Lo consiglio a chi sta cercando:
- Un primo handpan di livello professionale, senza compromessi sul suono
- Uno strumento adatto sia alla performance che alla pratica meditativa e di sound healing
- Una scala emotivamente ricca, capace di accompagnare percorsi interiori profondi
- Uno strumento con un supporto affidabile nel tempo
È uno strumento di altissimo livello, e lo affermo dopo anni di esperienza con decine di handpan diversi. Non è l'handpan più economico sul mercato — ma ogni euro del suo prezzo ha un senso.

There are instruments you choose. And then there are instruments that choose you.
This Handpan F Pygmy with 11 notes in 440 Hz is one that chose me. I play it every day. I've brought it into the studio, on stage, and into sound healing sessions. And every time, it gives me something new.
I want to tell you why — from my perspective as a musician and teacher — this handpan is something truly extraordinary, and why I recommend it without hesitation.
The Pygmy Scale: A Journey Inward
The Pygmy scale is one of the most loved among handpan players. Starting from F as the root note, it unfolds through a series of intervals that immediately create a deep, collected, almost hypnotic atmosphere.
It is not a cheerful scale in the conventional sense. It is a living scale — capable of drawing you inward, of creating inner space. Perfect for meditation, for sound healing, but also for more elaborate compositions, for those who want to express themselves with nuance and depth.
With 11 notes at your disposal, you have a very wide expressive range. You can build complete melodic phrases, play with the bass and high tones, create dynamics that would simply not be possible on a handpan with fewer notes.
The Sound — And How I Recorded It
Words fall short when it comes to timbre. That's why I recorded a composition on this instrument, and I'm sharing it here:
What you hear is the instrument played without significant added effects. What reaches you — that balance between notes, that clarity of overtones, that roundness of tone — is the instrument itself.
The sound is balanced, magical, and surprisingly alive. There is no dominant note that "clashes" against the others. There is no timbral asymmetry. There is a coherence you feel immediately, even to untrained ears.
"But It's From a Big Company..." — Let's Bust a Myth
I know what you might be thinking. When you hear that a handpan comes from a structured brand, you might imagine an industrial product — standardised, lacking the artisanal care that makes every handpan unique.
That's not how it works. Every handpan — including this one — is built by hand by highly specialised craftspeople. The metalworking, the tuning of every individual note, the care given to the dome and the bottom: everything passes through expert hands, years of experience, trained ears.
The difference compared to independent luthiers isn't in the quality of the craft — it is in consistency. A structured brand guarantees repeatable standards, selected materials, and quality control on every piece. And for someone like me who plays and recommends instruments every single day, that is an enormous value.
The After-Sales Support — A Detail That Changes Everything
One aspect that has particularly impressed me recently: the possibility of active tuning support from the manufacturer. The handpan, like all percussive metal instruments, can slightly lose its tuning over time — due to temperature changes, transport, or intensive use.
Knowing that there is attentive, responsive support available, that you can count on someone to keep your instrument at its absolute best: for me, this is worth as much as the quality of the instrument itself. In fact, it is part of the quality.
